Warranties

Warranties

Important warranty information, exclusions, customer responsibilities, and additional policy details from The Clock Shop of Richmond, LTD.

Please review the warranty terms below carefully so you understand what is covered, what is not covered, and what to expect if an item comes back for additional attention.

Standard Repair Warranty

Most repairs come with a 1-year warranty, though some are limited.

Timekeeping

Timekeeping is not warrantied and remains the responsibility of the owner.

Storage Fees

Items not picked up within 60 days may incur $35 per month storage fees.

Customer Responsibility

Proper use, safe handling, and understanding of your timepiece are the owner’s responsibility.

General Warranty Terms

Our warranty covers only certain repairs and certain parts. Please read the sections below carefully for limitations, exclusions, and important notes.

What the Warranty Covers

Repairs generally come with a 1-year warranty, though some are limited.

We warranty only that new parts are free of manufacturing defects. No other warranties apply and are expressly disclaimed.

If you have questions about the operation or setup of your timepiece, please let us know. We are happy to help explain proper use and setup.

What Is Not Covered

Timekeeping is not warrantied and remains the responsibility of the owner.

Warranty does not apply to damage caused by misuse or acts of nature. Examples include clocks that are allowed to wind down and jam, clocks that are out of beat, twisted or broken cables, worn or broken weight hooks, and similar issues.

Items that were not replaced or repaired by us are not covered by warranty.

Limited or Excluded Functions

Some functions do not come with a warranty or guarantee. This mainly applies to antique clocks unless otherwise specified, including:

  • Alarm mechanisms
  • Calendars
  • Day, date, and month functions
  • Moon dials

Because of age-related wear and missing, broken, or married parts, no attempts will be made to repair or adjust those functions.

If an Item Returns Under Warranty

Items brought back under warranty may need to stay with us longer so we can work through the issue properly.

We do not use a computer to diagnose clock issues. Everything is done by sight and testing. Some problems do not occur immediately because gears and parts move at different intervals.

Please be patient. Once the item is ready for pick up again, your 1-year warranty will start over from that date.

If we find parts or issues that were not part of the original repair, we will notify you and provide pricing before proceeding.

Repeated Returns & Misuse

Items brought back multiple times for the same issue, when we determine the cause to be misuse, may be charged for labor and time.

Examples include clocks or watches that are not being wound fully, clocks that are out of beat, and similar handling issues.

If you are unsure how to use your timepiece, please ask at pick up, call us, or submit a request through the website.

Normal Wear, Missing Parts & Cosmetic Issues

The Clock Shop of Richmond is not responsible for worn, damaged, missing, or age-related parts such as stones, case parts, crowns, scratched or cracked crystals, loose markers or emblems, missing veneers, broken finials, or other normal wear issues.

It is the customer’s responsibility to inspect and note any missing, broken, or damaged areas of the timepiece before leaving it with us.

We strongly encourage customers to take photos of their property before drop off.

Electric Cords, Paint & Dial Issues

We are not responsible for old, frayed, or damaged electric cords. Those repairs should be handled by a licensed electrician.

We are not responsible for flaking or missing paint on dials or cases due to age-related wear. Even with careful handling, more paint may come off because oxidized metals naturally begin to flake over time.

We do not repair, clean, or touch up dials.

We can refer you to a dial refinishing shop in Georgia upon request.

Grandfather / Floor Clock Warranty Note

Floor-standing clocks that are moved or relocated within 1 year of us servicing or repairing them are not covered by warranty.

A service call charge of $295 applies, or $445 for tubular bell clocks.

Please review the Service Calls page for more information.

Safety & Mechanical Warnings

Mechanical movements can be dangerous and should only be taken apart by a clockmaker or someone with real experience.

Clock springs can be up to 6 feet long and must be properly released before disassembly.

Failure to do so can result in bodily harm or damage to pivots, pinions, gear teeth, the clock case, or glass.

Other Important Information

Please also review the additional information below about shipping, privacy, storage, customer policies, and weather-related service delays.

Broken Springs, Shipping & Storage

Some clock springs and click springs break from age, normal wear, or incorrect key sizes. When a spring breaks, the force can also damage the internal movement, the case, or the dial. If this happens, please bring the clock in for evaluation.

We do not ship repaired or unrepaired clocks or watches. Damage caused by shipping is not covered under our warranty due to unknown handling practices.

Repairs or property not picked up within 60 days incur $35 per month in storage fees and may be considered abandoned.
