Warranties

The Clock Shop of Richmond, LTD

Timekeeping is not warrantied and is the responsibility of the owner. We warranty only that new parts are fee of mfg. defect. No other warranties apply and are expressly disclaimed. Repairs/property that is not picked up within 60 days incur storage fees of $35/month and may be deemed abandoned. Warranties do not apply to damage from acts of nature or misuse (allowing a clock to wind down and jam, clocks that are “out of beat,” cables that become twisted/broken, weight hooks that go bad/bread, etc.). Any court fees associated with an attempt to collect funds will be the customer’s responsibility. The Clock Shop of Richmond reserves all rights under Virginia Code § 46.2-644.02 & § 46.2-644.03.

It is the customer’s responsibility to insure proper usage of their timepiece(s).  Have questions? Please let us know! We are happy to go over your timepieces’ operations and/or set up.

Repairs come with a 1 year warranty, some are limited.*

*Some functions do not come with a warranty and will not be adjusted or attempted to be repaired. This mainly refers to antique clocks, unless otherwise specified, such as alarm mechanisms, calendars (Day, Date and/or Month) and moon dials. Parts become broken, and some removed due to age related age/and or operational issues.

  • Items brought back under warranty will be kept for, possibly, a longer period of time, so we can work out any issues.  We do not have a computer that diagnoses issues, everything is done by site.  Some issues may not occur right away (gears and parts move at different intervals).  Please be patient and we will start your one year warranty over upon pick up.  Items we did not replace/repair are not covered under warranty.  We would notify you of such items and a price before we proceed.
  • Items brought back multiple times, for the same problem(s)/issue(s), that we deem misuse, may be charged for our time/labor (examples: clocks/watches that are not being wound all the way, clock is out of beat, etc.).  If you have questions, let us know upon pick up, call us or submit a request for service here on the website.  We will get back to you as soon as possible.
  • The Clock Shop of Richmond is not responsible for worn/damaged clock/watch parts that go bad/break or are missing, such as stones, case parts, crowns, scratched/cracked crystals, loose markers/emblems, missing/loose wood veneers, broken finials or any other age/normal wear related issues.  It is the customer’s responsibility to observe any such items that are missing/broken/damaged on your timepiece/item.  We encourage customers to take photos of their property.
  • We are not responsible for old, frayed and/or damaged electric cords.  Please take these items to a licensed electrician for repairs.
  • We are not responsible for flaking/missing paint on dials and/or cases due to age related wear.  Your clock will be handled with care but there is always a chance more paint will fall off.  Metals over time, become oxidized and the paint will begin to flake/fall off.  No repairs/cleanings or touch ups on dials.  We can refer you to a dial refinishing shop, in Georgia, upon request.
  • Floor standing clocks that are moved/relocated within 1 year of us servicing/repairing are not covered by any warranty.  There will be a $275 ($375 for tubular bell clocks) charge for a service call.  Please click on the “In-Home/Office Service Calls” tab above for more information.
  • Mechanical movements can be dangerous and should only be taken apart and repaired, by a Clockmaker or someone with experience.  Clock springs can be up to 6 feet long, and should be properly released before the movement is disassembled.  Failure to do so can result in bodily harm or damage to pivots/pinions/gear teeth and/or the clock case or glass.

Other Information:

Some clock springs (and/or click springs) break from age, normal wear and/or incorrect key sizes.  If this occurs, please bring your clock in for us to evaluate.  The force of the spring breaking can cause internal damage/and possibly damage to the case or dial.

  • We do not ship repaired/unrepaired clocks and/or watches.  Broken/damaged items from shipping are not covered by our warranty due to unknown handling/shipping practices.
  • No customers are allowed in the repair department.
  • No customer/public restroom.
  • Children must be accompanied by an adult, AT ALL TIMES.
  • We ask that items not be handled/touched.
  • Looking for a licensed appraisal?  We can refer you upon request.
  • The Clock Shop of Richmond will never share/sell customer information.  All information given will be kept private and protected.
  • Need a large clock/grandfather clock moved? Referrals upon request.
