We repair Antique, Vintage & Modern, Automatic & Mechanical, Pocket Watches and Wrist Watches. Limited services for quartz/battery operated watches. Some watch parts may not be available.
All timepieces will be taken in and charged a $10 fee. You will be issued a claim ticket and an account number. This includes watches in need of battery replacements and/or estimates. Estimates can take us 3-4 weeks. See below for more detailed information on specific services and timeframes. Estimate fees will be credited towards the cost of batteries/repairs, upon initial drop offs, only.
The Clock Shop of Richmond may refuse to take in watches that are excessively worn due to age and/or have loose parts/markers/crowns/crystals/broken bands, etc. We will not replace batteries on these timepieces and will most likely require other repairs/adjustments.
- Due to high customer traffic, ALL TIME FRAMES GIVEN ARE APPROXIMATE.
- Watch Movement Overhaul/Cleaning (Mechanical/Automatic watches, 17 jewels or higher ONLY), Due every 5-10 years – 6 months – Minimal starting price $450.00.
- Watch Movement Replacements – 6 months – Minimal starting price $200.00
- Crystal Replacements & Installation – 4-6 months – Minimal starting price $100.00
- Back Installation – Some customers may choice to replace their own watch batteries but experience difficulties re-installing the backs. These backs are referred to as friction fitted and require a tool to close them. We charge a $10 fee to re-install backs. NO warranty/guarantee on these items. 1-2 weeks.
- Band Resizing – We DO NOT supply or order extra links. Please bring extra links with you if your band needs to be lengthened ~ “L” shaped pins must be done by the Watchmaker* ~ High end watches, must be done by the watchmaker.
- It is important on band resizing to have the owner present so we may fit the watch to their wrist. If other adjusted are needed in the future there will be additional charges.
- Watch Battery Replacements ~ $20 – $75 + tax ~ 1-2 weeks ~ All watches will be taken in, you will be issued a claim ticket and account number. There is a $10 fee per watch taken in, to determine if a battery is needed, back gasket and/or other repairs/parts. We no longer offer “While you wait” battery replacements.
- Watch Band Replacements ~ We offer Leather & Silicone bands only ~ We will also install bands supplied by the customer ~ Bands start at $9.95.
- Case/Band Cleaning ~ Only available on watches that we are servicing/repairing of the internal parts/movement.
- ALL WATCH REPAIRS REQUIRE A 50% DEPOSIT BEFORE ANY REPAIRS WILL BE COMPLETED. ITEMS LEFT OVER 60 DAYS WILL INCUR STORAGE FEES.
- There are some brands of watches we will not take in at all and some we may only offer to replace the battery only. You may call us to confirm if we are able to work/change battery on your brand of watch(es).
- WE DO NOT WORK ON: Fake/Faux reproduction watches, Smart Watches, Digital, Eco Drive, Solar, or any capacitor (rechargeable battery) powered watches
We do not offer expedited services.
The Clock Shop of Richmond, LTD, will not tolerate abusive language or behavior. NO refunds on deposits or estimate fees. We reserve the right to refuse service at anytime.

Other Information
- Parts on some watches are limited and may be on backorder. This WILL change the estimated repair time.
- We DO NOT install customer supplied batteries.
- Limit 5 total, watches per visit, per customer. This applies to watch batteries and items that need estimates on repairs.
- We do not offer “part & piece work.” If your timepiece is due for service that will be included in the estimate.
- Loose items, such as fobs, pictures, instruction manuals, original tags/paperwork/boxes, etc. should be left at home.
- Some chronograph watches may need to be reset after a battery has drained or been replaced. Please reference your original instructions for more information. If the Watchmaker must manually reset the chronograph hand(s), there is a $100 minimal. Some can be adjusted by the crown.
- *The Watchmaker is usually here Tuesday – Friday after 2pm. Please call before arriving to make sure he is in! Please call prior to your arrival to confirm he is here. Watch band adjustments and estimates, “while you wait” ($200 nonrefundable fee) only. Please note, we do not take appointments. First come, first serve.
- Aftermarket parts may be used to replace backordered items, parts that are no longer made, and parts we do not have access too.
- We are not responsible for any damage caused by batteries that leak/corrode in items that have been left over 60 days.
- If your watch is an automatic and you do not wear it all the time, it is recommended that you get a Watch Winder. They keep watches wound with backup power. They are available online or at your local Jewelry Store.
- If we install a battery in your watch(es) and it stops/loses time before a year, please bring that item back so we can re-check the battery. If it is drained/dead we will not offer a refund on that battery and most likely, your item will need a new movement. Receipts are required for a refund.
- Please do not continuously open/close the backs of mechanical/automatic watches that have been repaired. This allows small particles of dirt/debris into the watch.
- The Clock Shop of Richmond, will not refund any costs associated with parts we have installed.
- Each ready item must be picked up within 60 days of us calling. Items left over 60 days will incur a $35 a month storage fee.
- Estimates fees are nonrefundable. We do not offer free estimates/evaluations on watches that do not run with a new battery. If your watch only needs a battery or you approve needed repairs, the estimate fee will be credited to those costs. On initial drop offs only.
Please note that there are no parts available for faux/reproduction watches. If we take in a watch and the watchmaker deems it, a faux/reproduction, you will be called for pick up and no estimate or repairs will be completed. You will not be refunded the $10 estimate fee.
